OUR MISSION

Waste Free Greenwich is a grassroots, volunteer-operated nonprofit organization that aims to engage, educate and empower the Greenwich community to waste less through prevention, recycling and diversion. Our initiatives promote awareness of the 6Rs - refuse, reduce, reuse, repair, recycle and rot.

The challenge

Connecticut's waste management system is broken, resulting in increased fiscal costs and detrimental impacts on the environment and public health, particularly in environmental justice communities. Generation of waste is far outpacing disposal capacity in the Nutmeg State.

An ever growing portion of our waste is now buried or burned out of state, but regional landfill capacity will soon decrease significantly and incinerators are aging and closing. Our current system is unsustainable, and Greenwich is already feeling the impact of this crisis with increased disposal fees.

EVENTS & PROGRAMS

Wondering which items can be recycled? What materials are too hazardous to put in your trash bin? Or where to donate unwanted items? Use the new Waste Wizard tool to learn how to properly recycle, reuse or dispose of hundreds of items in the Town of Greenwich. Simply type the name of the item in question, and information will be provided on the best disposal options.
